Dream Glow by BTS / Charli XCX Review

In 2017, Charli XCX joked that she was the new member of BTS. It seemed quite feasible. She knows how to deal with a melody covered with candy and she knows how to reach a point of musical happiness. And she is no stranger to the world of K-pop; Earlier this year, she wrote a song for twice, a group of twee idols, and the group of boys put away from rapper Jay Park has closed Pop 2Unlock it. As if to keep a promise, Charli officially appears alongside BTS in "Dream Glow", the group's first song BTS World soundtrack for a mobile game of the same name. There is not much more k-pop than using music as an advertisement for an app, but the light bop of the song resists pessimists.

"Dream Glow" reuses a 2016 Charli XCX demo produced by StarGate, turning a radiant appearance into a sparkling reverie. Although billed at the BTS, the song features only three of the four singers in the group – Jimin, Jin and Jungkook – and none of its rappers. They do not miss a beat, Charli filling vacant spaces to maintain their carefully prepared synchronicity. She radiates with re-recorded voices and new lyrics, and the boys are circling around her. Their performance resembles a decorative glaze carefully applied to the edges of a cake, layer after layer of soft layers. They sing vaguely but surely, in English and Korean, about the unexploited potential of the dream. It's a starred look but not fancy. "Dream Glow" gives up the bubblegum pop music from Halsey's "Boy With Luv" collab for pristine EDM-lite fun. With Charli XCX as an honorary member, an underutilized BTS squad turns into a forget it the remains in a soft lullaby for their ARMY idealists.
