Drew Barrymore hasn’t seen the lively Hulu documentary Coaching Britney Spears, which tells of the singer’s struggle to be released from a guardianship, but she wishes it.
As the actress-turned-talk-show host explained on Monday’s episode of The Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM, she feels for Spears, Paris Hilton and other women who, like her, have spent much of their lives in the limelight. Barrymore herself was in movies before she was in kindergarten, and she had a sadly troubled childhood. She went to rehab when she was 13.
“I have so much empathy with so many people,” said Barrymore, who has been acting since the age of 6. “I’m sure people are looking and thinking, ‘These party people, these privileges, how dare they get They got down there, they asked that – it’s a f ****** game, “and I just say,” They’re humans. Barrymore stayed there for six to eight months, and the treatment eventually worked.
“It was the best thing that ever happened to me, in an unhealthy way, because it got me cold,” she said.
While Barrymore and her mother, Jaid Barrymore, have had a long and tumultuous relationship, she said things were improving. Barrymore got a better understanding of where his mother came from during Drew’s childhood.
“We texted this morning. I’m really glad there’s a healing there,” she said. “I feel kindness to my mother. I feel empathy and understanding.”
The Yell The star’s daughters, Olive, 8, and Frankie, 6, even met their grandmother.
“But there are real limits, distance and a lot of respect,” Barrymore said.
