Drew Brees will undergo a thumb operation, will be away for six weeks

After Drew Brees injured his hand in Sunday's Saints game against the Rams, Adam Schefter reports that the quarterback will need thumb surgery, which should keep him out of the field for six weeks.

The injury occurred in the first quarter when Rams' Aars Donald scored a pass from Brees and the two men's hands collided:

Teddy Bridgewater, the league's highest paid quarterback, replaced Brees for the rest of the game. He will probably be replaced by the Saints starter while Brees will recover. The Rams then won Sunday, 27-29.
