The wait for Dallas Cowboys Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Drew Pearson officially ended Sunday night in Canton, Ohio.
Pearson was the first inductee to deliver his acceptance speech, and he came out with his typical candor, humor and energy – not bad for a man who turned 70 in January and looks pretty fit. to make one of its patented clutches that it has become. famous for an 11 year career.
“The wait is over!” Pearson said on stage, showing off his bespoke gold jacket just in case anyone was unsure of his credentials.

But that was just the warm-up.
Pearson praised those who helped him along the way, including former Cowboys tight end and coach Mike Ditka. But Pearson also managed to cast a pretty funny shadow in Ditka’s path.
Ditka’s last season as a player was with the Cowboys in 1972. Pearson joined the team in 1973, the first year Ditka was an assistant coach working with receivers.
Pearson had a big laugh when he introduced Da Coach.
“To Mike Ditka, my first receiver coach, who was an All-Pro tight end,” said Pearson. “Which means he taught me nothing on how to run routes! ”
This broke the crowd on the spot. It wasn’t quite the reaction Pearson got when he raided Eagles fans in the 2017 NFL Draft, but it was a fun moment for a player who waited 38 years for his consecration.
And he probably sat on that Ditka line almost as long.
