There seems to be more evidence that you should reduce sugary drinks such as sodas and fruit juices. According to CNNa, a new study suggests that drinking even a small glass of soda or juice can increase the risk of premature death. The least amount of a third of a can of soda can increase the risk of cancer by 18% and the risk of breast cancer by 22%. The study observed 100,000 French adults who observed a relationship between sugary drinks and increased risks of cancer.

"The results indicate statistically significant correlations between the consumption of sugary drinks and the risk of all cancers combined, and breast cancer," said nutrition and emeritus researcher Ian Johnson. "Surprisingly perhaps, the increased risk of cancer among heavy consumers of sugary drinks has been observed even among consumers of pure fruit juice – this deserves more research,"

The study's lead author, Mathilde Touvier, said that sugar was the main factor associated with increased cancer risk.

"What we have observed is that the main driver of the association seems to be actually the sugar contained in these sugary drinks," she said. "High consumption of sugary drinks is a risk factor for obesity and weight gain," she added. "Obesity is in itself a risk factor for cancer."
