A CTA blue line train struck a car that landed on the railroad tracks near Rosemont station on Tuesday night, killing the driver of the vehicle and injuring at least three people on the train, officials said. authorities.
The accident interrupted the Blue Line service between Rosemont and O'Hare stations and blocked both lanes of Interstate 190 near O'Hare for several hours on Tuesday night.
The train hit the car shortly before 9 pm near the westbound lane of the highway between Mannheim Road, according to the state police of Illinois. It was not clear how the car ended up on the tracks.
The driver was taken to a neighborhood hospital in critical condition, but his death was later pronounced, state police said.
Three passengers of the train were also transported to local hospitals; their conditions were not known at that time, said Sgt. Joe Balogh, a spokesperson for the Rosemont Police Department.
There was a shuttle bus between Rosemont and O'Hare stations while the authorities were on site to clean track debris.
Blue Line trains ran between Forest Park and Rosemont Station, according to the CTA. The service between Rosemont and Harlem (O'Hare branch) had already been suspended, but resumed Tuesday night.
