DETROIT – DTE Gas customers will benefit from a very small monthly credit on their invoices from September and for a period of more than 20 years.

The Michigan Public Service Commission today approved monthly decreases for customers of DTE Gas Co., to reflect the impact of lower federal tax rates on the company's long-term investments.

A total of $ 333 million will be returned to customers, or $ 12.7 million annually. A residential customer using 10,000 cubic feet of natural gas per month will receive a Monthly credit of 58 cents on their bill From September onwards.

If you do the quick calculation using the average credit mentioned above, this means that the repayments will be made about 26 years. And on average, customers would benefit from a total refund of about 180 USD over this period.

That's right – it's $ 180 over 26 years, for the average residential customer using 10,000 cubic feet of natural gas per month.

MPSC approved repayments of USD 2.12 per month for DTE Gas customers in May 2018 and repayments of USD 2.21 per month in October 2018.

"Since the coming into force of the Federal Income Tax Reduction and Reduction Act, the Commission has been a strong advocate for taxpayer savings," said MPSC President Sally Talberg. "Our staff continues to play a leading role in ensuring that every dollar saved as a result of changes in tax legislation is passed on to taxpayers as quickly as possible."
