Yesterday I wrote about the DTPM framework sent for Linux 5.11 but eventually Linus Torvalds decided not to accept it outside of the merge window.
As mentioned in the previous article, it was sent a week after the Linux 5.11 merge window. The Dynamic Thermal Power Framework (DTPM) aims to be a higher level thermal framework for cases such as ensuring users do not burn themselves on hot devices and complying with legal requirements for case temperatures / exposed device do not exceed 45 degrees Celsius.
While this framework had been in the works for months and pushed as a late pull request for Linux 5.11 in the hope that it would encourage greater code adoption for the Linux 5.12 cycle, Linus Torvalds was not happy with a code as late. After initially questioning the “very unpatch”, it eventually pulled in a revised merge request that didn’t include the addition of the DTPM framework.
PM fixes that have been removed without DTPM include the new C status table for Intel Snow Ridge processors and various other fixes. The DTPM framework itself will now have to wait until Linux 5.12 to go through the next merge window.
