Dual-tier browser tabs can be yours with Vivaldi 3.6

Vivaldi today releases version 3.6 of the Vivaldi browser with great and terrible power: you can now create two-tier tab stacks, so that grouped tabs can become pseudo-workspaces for whatever you want. done in your browser. Vivaldi first introduced the feature on a trial basis in December 2020, but now you can officially indulge yourself in two levels of too many tabs.

Creating two-tier stacked tabs is as easy as holding down the Command or Windows key, selecting the tabs you want to place in the stack, then right-clicking and selecting “New Stack.” tabs ”from the drop-down menu. You can also achieve the same effect by dragging and holding one tab over another. Clicking on the newly formed stack of tabs (signified by a white outline) reveals the second row of tabs tucked inside. Tab stacks can also be renamed and closed both from the right click drop down menu.

With the two-tier tab stack, each grouping can function as a visually separate workspace for the number of browser-based projects you might have at one time. This could be a way to separate distracting tabs in your window while keeping your tabs crisp and preventing you from losing a page when you really need to. Or could just be another way to store even more tabs.

Vivaldi also lets you place tabs on the sides and bottom of the browser window, and the new two-level tabs feature works in those orientations as well.

Vivaldi’s Chromium-based browser has been geared towards power users since its inception. It’s highly customizable, full of features, and looks pretty awesome when it comes to privacy. The browser even launched with the tab bundle in 2016, something Google Chrome didn’t start rolling out until 2020. And if you like tree-style tabs, which can ‘fork’ and nest in other tabs, Vivaldi has them too.
