History of the series
North Carolina leads the historic 137-111 series, but Duke has grown significantly over the past decade. Since 2009, the Blue Devils have gained ground, registering an overall record of 12-6 in the regular season. Since Roy Williams joined UNC in 2003-2004, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is 17-13 against his opponent.
Not only are the recordings close, but the games too. Six of the 32 games in the series since Williams took over have been decided by two points or less – and Duke is 5-1 in those contests. Even more juicy: the last 11 competitions were decided by 10 points or less, highlighted last season by UNC (2-1) against Duke but registering a margin of -1 -1 on the season. If you go back to the beginning of the 1949 season, UNC scored 13,581 points against Duke in the series, and Duke scored 13,559 points – a crazy 22 point difference in 70 (!) Years, according to the NCAA. The odds and history of this series suggest that Wednesday should be a contested match!

Between the two, they have a combined total of 21 Final Four appearances, John Wooden's 12 draws with Krzyzewski, and Williams' third with nine goals – with KU (4) and UNC (5). They also combined 1,985 victories, 29 conference championships and 8 national championships. It's not at all hypberolic to regard them as one of the greatest academic coaches in history.
