New web series led by popular YouTube personality Jovenshire brings a unique twist to Dungeons and dragons. Stuff from legends is a new 6-part web series that combines Dungeons and dragons gameplay with puppets. The new series stars Jovenshire as the Dungeon Master for a game starring Lisa Foiles, Brandon Rogers, Shanna Malcolm and Lasercorn. While “Let’s Play” style D&D shows have grown in popularity in recent years, Stuff from legends also uses rod style puppets (similar to Muppets) made by DLUX based Las Vegas puppets to perform various battle and role play scenes. Jovenshire described the new series as Dungeons and dragons meets Drunk story, but with puppets instead of actors.
“I’m a huge fan of puppets,” Jovenshire told ComicBook.com, when asked about the decision to bring puppets to the D&D table. “Like many of us, I grew up with them. Dungeons and dragons and we were talking about puppets. Honestly, the question is, why not puppets? “
“For me, I worked on animated projects,” Jovenshire continued. “And what I love about these is when you work with cartoons your imagination is as far as you can take it and you can do whatever you can draw. But sometimes with cartoons. , you lose that physical comedy, you lose that physical aspect. And that was really important to me. And with the puppets you get that. You get that slapstick humor, you get that tongue in your cheek, the Three Stooges comedy , while being very lively. And when you have something as wild as Dungeons & Dragons, and you want to invent all these different crazy concepts and monsters and turn them into puppets. “
The show features a mix of live gameplay and scenes performed by puppets. Whenever the game heads for a fight or dialogue, Stuff from legends cut the series puppets playing the scenes while the game continues. To bring this unique mix to life, Jovenshire explained that the show had gone through two separate production runs – one involving the players on a closed set, and then a second shoot involving the puppeteers performing the scenes performed by the players.
Originally, Jovenshire launched Stuff from legends as a potential project involving Magic: the gathering, the popular collectible card game produced by D&D creator Wizards of the Coast. “[Wizards] had a green light program to promote Magic: the gathering, and they were looking for different content creators to create larger than life products to advance the game, ”Jovenshire said. Although Stuff from legends will feature iconic D&D monsters, this will not be a series just for seasoned D&D fans. But not all of those fans can get into a podcast or three hour show that has 50 episodes. So I wanted to do something. something digestible. for new fans, but also with deep cuts and was entertaining for people who have been playing for about 30 years.
