Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said monday He will seek to become the top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee next year, after Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) announced she would step down.
The big picture: Durbin served on the committee for 22 years. He noted on Monday that he is his oldest member who is not already on the leadership of another group. Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) Has seniority in Durbin, but chairs the appropriations committee.
What he says: Durbin thanked Feinstein “for his distinguished leadership” on the committee, adding that he is “proud to call him my friend and colleague”,
