Dustin Poirier signs trilogy deal with Conor McGregor at UFC 264

One of the greatest trilogies in UFC history is nearing completion.

Dustin Poirier has signed his contract for a showdown with Conor McGregor at the next UFC event scheduled for July 10.

Several people familiar with the situation confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Friday after Poirier signed his deal. ESPN initially reported the news.

At this time, it’s unclear whether McGregor actually put a pen to his contract, although additional sources have said the Irish superstar has already agreed to the trilogy fight and date with Poirier in principle.

UFC president Dana White had previously said he hoped to reserve Poirier against McGregor 3 for this summer as the promotion returns to hosting events in crowded arenas. While the ultimate goal is to host this event in Las Vegas, it’s still unclear whether Nevada will allow large indoor gatherings by July, which means Poirier vs. McGregor 3 could take place elsewhere.

McGregor is looking to avenge a second-round knockout loss to Poirier at UFC 257 in January. That fight tied the series to one each after McGregor sent Poirier by TKO in the first round in 2014 when both fighters competed at the featherweight.

As for Poirier, he’ll be looking for another brand win – and a huge paycheck – against McGregor. He reportedly chose the trilogy over fighting for the vacant UFC lightweight title in May; Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler will fight for the belt at UFC 262.
