Dusty Hill replacement has ZZ Top beard due to pandemic

ZZ Top continues to tour after Dusty Hill’s death, a commission that came directly from the bassist before his death. And, luckily, the man who takes his place has a classic ZZ Top style beard.

The band’s longtime guitarist Elwood Francis will replace Hill in the iconic band. For 30 years he worked with the band and only recently got clean shaven.

“When the lockdown was imminent, we all got together for a group reunion, before things got too fierce,” frontman Billy Gibbons reminded Variety. “And I said, ‘Dusty, it looks like we won’t be able to do much or go anywhere. What do you plan to do? ‘ And he said, ‘Well, I’ll tell you what I’m not going to do. And it cut the lawn. I’m not going to cut the grass.

Gibbons also agreed with the idea. “I smiled and said, ‘Well, I’ll join you on that,'” confirmed the leader.

At that point, Francis, who was also present at the meeting, came up with his own variant of the pact. “Well if you don’t cut the grass I’m not going to cut my whiskers,” Gibbons said as the guitar technician said.

When the group reunited after the lockdown, they were shocked at Francis’s transformation.

“When we got together to start rehearsals just a week and a half ago, here came Elwood, and I said, ‘My God, you have mustaches as long as Dusty and me! “Gibbons proclaimed.

Now Hill’s initial injury and subsequent death brought Francis on stage, and fans can’t help but notice the similarities in facial hair.

“When he got on stage the other night, I was looking over the front row and everyone was nudging each other, and they would point their fingers and say, ‘Look, the ZZ Top circus is still running. There’s another monster up there, ”Gibbons noted. “I actually had to walk around and grab him by the chin to give him a sharp kick, just to show the audience – I said, ‘Guys, this is the real deal here. “”

Beard or not, Gibbons is just happy that Hill’s last wish was honored.

“Wherever Dusty is, he’s probably smiling, just knowing that all the notes are in place and the ferocity continues.”
