Johnson, who plays the powerful villain trying to redeem himself, took to Instagram on Sunday to share video footage of Times Square, showing an animated graphic from the film pasted onto the New York landmark’s digital screens.
As the premiere date appears in flashing neon lights, an ominous voiceover declares, “The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.”
“A disruptive and unstoppable global force of a message from the man in black himself. ‘Black Adam’ is coming July 29, 2022,” the caption of the Instagram post read.
Revealing the project in 2019, Johnson said the role of Black Adam was unlike any other I have played in my career.
He added that Black Adam is “blessed by magic with powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is that he doesn’t meet the bar or walk the line. He’s a rebellious superhero, unique in his kind, who will always do the right thing for the people – but he does it his way.
“Black Adam” was previously slated for December of this year, but has been pulled from the Warner Bros. release schedule. in October 2020. Warner Bros., like CNN, is owned by WarnerMedia.
