It doesn’t look like Dwayne Johnson is coming back anytime soon in the “Fast & Furious” franchise.
After his former co-star, Vin Diesel, addressed their seemingly palpable tension last month, Johnson, 49, said he believed Diesel’s comments – in which he spoke of having to give his co-stars “A lot of hard love” – were laughable.
“I laughed and laughed a lot,” he said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, published Wednesday. “I think everyone laughed at that. And I will stop there. And that I wished them good luck. I wish them good luck on ‘Fast 9’. And I wish them good luck on ‘Fast 10’ and ‘Fast 11’ and the rest of the ‘Fast & Furious’ movies they make without me.
The two have been feuding since production of “The Fate of the Furious” ended in 2016. During filming, Johnson made scathing comments about several anonymous male co-stars, calling them “candy ass.” .
“Some behave like standing men and real professionals, while others don’t,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “Those who don’t are too chicks to do anything anyway. Ass sweets. When you watch this movie next April and it looks like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legitimately boiling, you’re right.
The actor was rumored to be referring to Diesel for constantly being late, criticizing his co-stars’ acting skills and being difficult to work with.
Diesel, 54, later told Men’s Health the harsh criticism was intentional.
“I would do whatever I should do to get performance in whatever I produce,” he said. “He was a difficult character to play, the character of Hobbs. My approach at the time was a lot of hard love to help get this performance where it needed to be.
Johnson appeared as Agent Luke Hobbs in four of the films, as well as in the spin-off film “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”. He didn’t return for the franchise’s latest installment, “F9,” which also stars Jordana Brewster.
Two more films are set to follow “F9,” with director Justin Lin returning for both.
