E3 2019 – The Jedi Fallen order was not a Star Wars game in the origin

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is an unexpected project by Respawn Entertainment. The studio is best known for its first-person shooter games, including the Titanfall series and, more recently, Apex Legends. Jedi Fallen Order marks the studio's first foray into the third-person adventure genre, making it all the more impressive as it does with the Star Wars license. However, during the E3 2019, director Stig Asmussen revealed that the project was not originally a title of Star Wars – the license was attached after the creation of the game.

Speaking with GameSpot after the unveiling of the game at EA Play, Asmussen said that the unnamed original project had attracted the attention of different people at EA, the parent company of Respawn Entertainment. And since the gameplay pillars set up by developers for his first project worked conceptually with Star Wars, he was able to adapt.

"Before working on Star Wars, we were working on a different game, which was essentially based on the same pillars as this game, namely a thoughtful fight, an agile exploration – you know, beyond human-level design and Metroidvania ", did he declare. I said.

"And it's something that when we were working on that other game and we demonstrated it, the people [at] EA saw it and said, there is something in there that you can easily see the show turn into a Star Wars game. My background is that of scrimmage action, so when they contacted us and told us, "We really like the game you are working on and want to do at some point, but what do you think of the realization of Star Wars? " we were like, great.

"And [a lot] from the basic functionality we were building for the other game, most of the fundamentals were able to make the transition. So we always start with "What is the game? How do you feel? How does it play? What are the mechanisms? before really understanding the story. It turns out that the thing we are working on has really worked well. "

The first Jedi Fallen Order game video was shown early in EA Play and revealed that lightsaber battles will be considered tactical and non-tactile, instead of a burst of swings. Because of this, it is compared to the titles of Dark Software and Dark Souls and Bloodborne from From Software, and this is explored in our comprehensive interview with Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. The gameplay demo also confirmed that a major character of Rogue One will be in Jedi Fallen Order.

Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order arrives on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on November 15th.
