E3 2021 gaming fair to go digital

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, was one of many major events canceled last year due to COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the show’s organizers seem poised to bring the expo online if they can convince game publishers to participate.

According to Video Games Chronicles Monday, a proposal from the Entertainment Software Association would show plans for a three-day live E3. The association has confirmed that it is making changes to this year’s event, but not whether it is going to be fully digital.

“We can confirm that we are transforming the E3 experience for 2021 and will soon share exact details on how we bring together the global video game community,” ESA said via email on Monday. “We have great conversations with publishers, developers and companies from all walks of life, and we look forward to sharing details of their involvement soon.”

The show would feature multiple game company showcases, an awards show, a preview event, and feeds led by publishers, developers, influencers and more. To accompany the live broadcasts, ESA suggests that the demos of the games presented be available on different game platforms.

Plans for a digital E3 would require approval from members of ESA, which includes leading companies in the gaming industry.

The Cancellation of E3 2020 came in March as the coronavirus pandemic was gaining a foothold in the United States. Even without a show, companies such as Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo hold digital events during the summer months to showcase their upcoming games and new generation equipment.
