EA will return to golf games with new PGA Tour title

EA’s effort to resuscitate old sports franchises now extends to golf. The publisher announced EA Sports PGA Tour, a “next-gen” renaissance of PGA Tour franchise. Few details are available at this early stage, but EA Tiburon (who made Tiger Woods PGA Tour and work on Madden NFL) leads the project. Unsurprisingly, it will run on the internal Frostbite game engine and focus on recreating real courses and tournaments.

More information will emerge in the coming weeks, EA said, although you’ll have to wait for a release date in the “coming months.”

It is a logical decision for the company. The gaming giant left the 2K PGA Tour unopposed series, and the rival publisher even landed a deal with Tiger Woods. At least that offers some sort of answer. We’ll add that it’s also diversifying EA’s sports game lineup at a time when it might be needed. The latest flagship sports titles, in particular Madden NFL 21, received a less than stellar response. A wider range of sports, including golf and college football, could help EA soften the blow when they have bad years, not to mention reach out to a relatively untapped audience.
