PHILADELPHIA CREAM – The Eagles started their 80-player cuts ahead of Tuesday’s NFL deadline.
The Eagles gave up wide receiver Jhamon Aubson and cornerback Lavert Hill on Sunday, according to the official NFL trading list. The Eagles have until 4 p.m. ET Tuesday to reduce their roster to 80 players, not including defensive end Matt Leo, who is currently on the squad as an exemption from the international roster.

With Ausbon and Hill both hitting the tie-off, the Eagles now have 83 players – not counting Leo – on their roster. The team will need to make three more cuts before the league deadline.
The team trained on Sunday at their indoor facility at the NovaCare complex, and Hill and Ausbon were not in attendance. On Monday, the Eagles travel to Florham Park to compete with the Jets in a pair of joint practices Tuesday and Wednesday. The team are likely to reduce their roster to 80 players before the trip to the highway.
Ausbon joined the Eagles roster in May as an undrafted free agent. The rookie had worked with wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead at Texas A&M in 2017. Despite that connection. Ausbon’s performance and reps were limited during the summer. He only played one offensive snap against the New England Patriots on Thursday.
With the departure of Ausbon, the Eagles still have a lot of depth on the wide receiver. With first-round pick DeVonta Smith, the Eagles have Jalen Reagor, Travis Fulgham, Quez Watkins, John Hightower, Greg Ward, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, Marken Michel and Hakeem Butler to take reps against the Jets this week.
The Eagles will likely keep six spreaders in their 53-man roster. Smith, Reagor and Watkins will take three spots, while Fulgham, Ward, Hightower and Arcega-Whiteside will compete this week for the final three jobs.
Hill joined the Eagles’ practice squad last December. The then rookie did not appear in a game, but was re-signed to a reserve / futures contract after the season. Despite some noteworthy plays during training camp, Hill didn’t impress the staff enough to stick around throughout the preseason. Even with Hill leaving, the Eagles still have Darius Slay, Steve Nelson, Avonte Maddox, Craig James, Zech McPhearson, Josiah Scott, Kevon Seymour and Michael Jacquet at the job.
Slay, Nelson, Maddox and McPhearson are expected to fill the top four positions on the depth table. James, Scott, Seymour and Jacquet are vying for one or two positions.
After joint training, the Eagles will close the preseason against the Jets at MetLife Stadium on Friday. The Eagles will have until August 31 to reduce their roster to 53 players.
