Eagles injury report: limited Jalen Reagor, Josh Sweat among five players who haven’t trained

The Philadelphia Eagles released their first official injury report Wednesday ahead of their Week 16 game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Five players DON’T PRACTICE: Fletcher Cox, Josh Sweat, Cameron Johnston, Richard Rodgers and Kevon Seymour.

The Eagles have been resting Cox lately. He’ll be good for Sunday’s game.

Sweat should “run out of time,” according to Doug Pederson. The sweat will at least be out for this week’s game. Likely won’t play again this season, especially if the Eagles don’t make the playoffs. Disappointing news since Sweat showed good development and the Philly pass rush is worse without him.

Johnston is at risk of missing this week’s game as he is on concussion protocol. The Eagles in particular brought free bettor Matt Wile for a visit Wednesday. Perhaps it should be signed.

Dick Rod was hauled off the pitch on Sunday so it looks like he suffered a serious problem. I guess he will at least be out for this week’s game. Could end up on an insured reserve.

Seymour was injured in Week 15. He’s one of only four full-time cornerbacks on the 53-man roster, so Philly’s secondary depth will be slight if he can’t play. The Eagles may have to promote him from Jameson Houston to the practice squad.

Two players were limited: Jalen Reagor and Duke Riley.

Pederson said Reagor would be “fine,” so maybe the team takes a cautious approach with the rookie to get him to Sunday.

Riley was one of the top two linebackers on this team, so the Eagles are hoping he can play. Otherwise, it will mean a bigger role for TJ Edwards.

Three players were listed as SOLD OUT: Darius Slay, Grayland Arnold and Jason Huntley.

Pederson said Slay cleared the concussion protocol so he would be back for this week’s game. Good development for the Eagles as they will be counting on him to shut down Amari Cooper.

Arnold was full for the first time since tweaking his hamstrings ahead of the Week 14 game. It’s good to get him back to bring depth to safety and help special teams.

Huntley missed week 15 due to illness. It’s good to see he’s back in the fold even though he’ll likely be healthy on Sunday.

DALLAS COWBOYS INJURY REPORT (WEDNESDAY)

Ezekiel Elliott was limited in practice after missing Week 15. Looks like he’ll be back this week, which is actually bad news for Dallas. Zeke has been 3.8 yards per carry in his last seven games while Tony Pollard is 4.9. The Cowboys should really be using Pollard more often, but they’ll likely put Elliott in a bigger workload. Classic case of subtraction by addition.

It looks like the Cowboys will miss three defensive starters at Leighton Vander Esch, Antwuan Woods and Xavier Woods. Mike McCarthy was not optimistic on their chances of playing this week. Dallas’ defense is already bad at the start and now it could be even worse.
