Just when it looked like the Eagles were focusing on Josh McDaniels, another name was added to their vast search for coaches.
The Eagles will interview Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni for their head coach position on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Sirianni, 39, has been the offensive coordinator at Indianapolis since 2018. He joined the Colts when former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich took over as head coach at Indianapolis after McDaniels stepped down. Everything is connected!
Before Reich joined the Eagles in 2016, he was with the Chargers as quarterbacks coach in 2013 and their offensive coordinator in 2014-15. Sirianni also worked for the Chargers. He was a quality control coach in 2013 and replaced Reich as quarterbacks coach in 2014-15, working under him.
After Reich was sacked in 2016 and joined the Eagles, Sirianni stayed with the Chargers and coached wide receivers for two years before reuniting with Reich in Indianapolis in 2018.
Sirianni has spent years coaching eight-time Pro Bowlers Philip Rivers, both with the Chargers and now with the Colts.
In the three seasons under Reich and Sirianni, the Colts are eighth in the NFL in points scored, averaging 25.9 points per game. And they have the offense in 12th place, averaging 363.9 yards per game. The Colts have made the playoffs twice in three years.
Sirianni began his coaching career at his alma mater, Mount Union, in 2004. He coached defensive backs for two seasons before moving to IUP to coach receivers in 2006. In 2009 he was hired by the Chiefs as a quality control coach and during his four seasons at Kansas City was also the assistant coach of the QBs and receivers.
Sirianni will be the eighth known candidate to interview for the job, after Joe Brady, Robert Saleh, Arthur Smith, Jerod Mayo, Duce Staley, McDaniels and Todd Bowles. The Eagles have also asked to interview several more.
It’s been over a week since the Eagles sacked Doug Pederson. When they entered their coaching search, they were among seven teams with vacant head coaching positions. They are one of only two remaining, along with the Texans.
