The Eagles miraculously clinched a victory in Carolina despite a tough start to the game. Here is an overview of the performance of the young people.
DeVonta Smith: A
A big question to ask in this game was whether DeVonta Smith could continue his 122-yard game against the Chiefs with another solid game. DeVonta Smith responded with a performance of seven catches and 77 yards. While the stats aren’t flashy, Smith has won on almost all of his catches. He attacked football and made plays on not so ideal passes. Smith put the icing on the cake with a two-point conversion catch in the back end of the end zone.
Smith is making plays that no other Eagles wide receiver can make at this point. It’s not only that he’s fast, but he’s reliable and a lot more cerebral than his peers. Smith’s strong and consistent play is a big reason the Eagles stayed in the game.
Landon Dickerson: D
After a strong performance last week against Kansas City, Landon Dickerson looked tough in Carolina. Starting again at left guard, Dickerson let go of the pressure on what appeared to be a regular base and couldn’t really get a boost in the running game. Factor in a false start penalty and Dickerson did more harm than good to the Eagles. Carolina’s defensive line was expected to be a challenge, but Dickerson had to show more than he did today. It should be mentioned that he did not finish the game in the starting XI.
Milton Williams: B
The Eagles defense played some of their best football against an explosive attack from Carolina and Williams had some shining moments. Not only did he look solid taking up space as a race defender, but he also came under some pressure as a passer. It wasn’t until Milton Williams started to shine as a playmaker and the Eagles got a glimpse of his advantage against the Panthers.
Zech McPhearson: N / A
Another game where McPhearson was relegated to special teams where he didn’t make much noise.
Kenneth Gainwell: C
Kenneth Gainwell’s production dropped this week, but he still continues to be a bit on the field for the Eagles. In key moments, Gainwell delivered. He had a third down conversion where he ran a lunge exit route and late in the game he had a long run to keep the clock running. He’s only had three touches, but Gainwell continues to contribute whenever the Eagles have him on the pitch.

Didn’t see much of the pitch against Carolina as Genard Avery probably had his best game as an Eagle.
