Eagles rooting guide for Week 5 games

Now that the fifth Sunday of the 2021 NFL Regular Season has arrived, it’s time to run through a Philadelphia Eagles-focused rooting guide for all of the Week 5 games. This drill will be especially interesting this year, as the Birds have more going on than usual due to the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts’ choice possession in the 2022 NFL Draft.

EAGLES GAME

EAGLES OF PHILADELPHIA at CAROLINE PANTHERS: Big difference between 2-3 and 1-4 when it comes to keeping the playoff prospects. No time to tank yet. Root for the Eagles.

NFC EST

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS To WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM: The football team is currently second in the division standings. The Eagles would love to see them lose. Root for the saints.

THE GIANTS OF NEW YORK To COW-BOYS DALLAS: The Cowboys are clearly the biggest threat to winning the division. Better to see Dallas lose. A Giants victory also serves to damage their positioning in the draft. Root for the giants.

PICK WATCH

MIAMI DOLPHINS at TAMPA BAY BOUCANIERS: The Eagles own the Dolphins’ first-round pick, which is currently No. 4 in the 2022 NFL Draft Order. Let’s see how far it can go! Root for the buccaneers.

INDIANAPOLIS chicks at BALTIMORE RAVENS: For the first time this season, Eagles fans will have the opportunity to watch Carson Wentz in a nationally televised game. The ideal outcome for this Monday Night Football game involves Wentz recording 100% of the Colts’ snaps and playing well in a very close loss to Baltimore. That way the Eagles get closer to Wentz hitting the 75% threshold and Indy isn’t that motivated to put him on the bench. The Colts have the potential to bounce back in the near future with games against Houston, Tennessee, NYJ and Jacksonville coming up. The hope is that they remain competitive enough to continue playing at Wentz to compete for the AFC South title, but ultimately miss the playoffs. Root for Crows.

TITANS OF TENNESSE To JAGUARS JACKSONVILLE: The Titans losing to the Jets and Jags in consecutive weeks would be worrying when it comes to hoping they win the AFC South. The Eagles don’t want to see Tennessee totally run away with the division as they want Indy to be prompted to run for the division and not put Wentz on the bench. But a Titans win here is probably the best result for Philly. Then again, a Jags win would be good from Miami’s perspective ahead of Jacksonville in the draft order. Root for the Titans.

NEW YORK JETS To ATLANTA FALCON: The Jets lead Miami in the standings. To make the Dolphins’ pick even higher, hope for a loss in Atlanta. Root for the Jets.

DETROIT LIONS To MINNESOTA VIKINGS: The Lions lead Miami in the standings. To make the Dolphins’ pick even higher, hope for a loss in Minnesota. Root for Lions.

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS To HOUSTON TEXANS: The Texans are a bigger threat to get ahead of Miami / Indy in the draft order. Root for Texans.

DENVER BRONCOS To PITTSBURGH STEELS: Better to see the Steelers win than not to threaten for a first pick. Root for the Steelers.

GREEN BAY PACKERS To BENGAUX DE CINCINNATI: Root for the AFC team on the NFC team. More competition in the AFC’s playoff picture is bad news for the Dolphins / Colts and good news for the Eagles. Root for the Bengals.

CHICAGO BEAR To THE RAVIERS OF LAS VEGAS: Root for the AFC team on the NFC team. More competition in the AFC playoff picture is bad news for the Dolphins / Colts and good news for the Eagles. Again, I don’t want to see the bears wrestling too much a lot since NYG owns their first round pick. Root for the Raiders.

SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS To CARDINALS OF ARIZONA: The 49ers are the biggest threat to pick higher among these two teams. Root for the 49ers.

WHAT’S LEFT

BRUNS DE CLEVELAND To LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: Not really relevant to the Eagles. I’m supporting the AFC Chargers this year, so that’s my preference.

BUFFALO INVOICES To HEADS OF KANSAS CITY: It would be fun to see a team other than the Chiefs (read: my Chargers) win the AFC West. Go on the bills.
