Eagles to be well represented at Trey Lance pro day

The Eagles will be well represented at Trey Lance Professional Day on Friday.

Albert Breer from SI.com tweeted Thursday that Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson will both be in Fargo, ND to see North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance.

This is interesting for several reasons.

Lance and Carson Wentz are close friends, and it would certainly be ironic and downright odd if the Eagles drafted a second North Dakota State quarterback in six years.

But also curious considering the fact that ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported earlier this week that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had asked his scout squad to advance with Jalen Hurts as a starting quarterback, which appears prevent them from taking a quarterback in the first round.

But there are so many unknowns in the Draft that teams that don’t have clear needs for a certain position will usually attend all or most of the Draft’s top prospects.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound Lance had an incredible 2019 season for the Bison, completing 67 percent of his passes, throwing 28 touchdowns and no interceptions and rushing for 1,110 yards. North Dakota State went 16-0 and won the FCS National Championship.

Last year, Lance played just one game – the only fall game in North Dakota State. He completed 15 of 30 passes for 149 yards with two touchdowns and his first career INT in a victory over center Arkansas. North Dakota State is playing this spring – they’re 2-1 and ranked No.5 in the FCS – but Lance is no longer on the schedule.

Breer has also listed the Jets, Falcons, Lions, Panthers, Broncos, Saints and Washington as planning to attend Lance’s professional day, but most of the 32 teams will likely be represented by someone.

Lance is expected to kick off his professional day, but will not run or participate in the agility exercises.

Lance is screened by virtually all draft analysts as one of the top 10 picks.
