Eagles training camp wraps up Day 3: More coaching and player interviews

The Eagles finished day three of training camp on Friday and there was another parade of players to stop and talk to post-practice reporters including Ryan Kerrigan, Jake Elliott and Darius Slay. We also heard from Special Teams Coordinator Michael Clay and new Australian punter Arryn Siposs.

Here’s what some of the guys had to say:

Special Teams Coordinator Michael Clay

Clay said Jalen Reagor is doing well – as are all comebacks – and that they worked with him to get a better view of the ball than last year and get him to work with the pitching machine. He smiled when asked about DeVonta Smith and if he would return punts in season, and noted that it would be a conversation between himself, Nick Sirianni and Howie Roseman, but they want to make sure he is comfortable in the role because you never know what’s going to happen.

He was asked who has stood out in the special teams so far, and he admitted that it was hard to tell after just three days, but the whole group has been attentive and energetic, and it’s been awesome so far. ‘now.

“Despite being in Washington for 10 years, it doesn’t look really weird. The guys have been super welcoming to me, really everyone around the building has been, and it’s been a fun few days so far to start training camp. I’m glad we’re getting started and getting on with the ball.

His short time at Philly reinforced his decision to sign with the Eagles. Kerrigan also highlighted DC Jonathan Gannon’s energy and attention to detail, as two things have stood out in recent days. As for what stands out from the program, Kerrigan noted the versatility it offers.

When asked about the NFL protocols regarding COVID vaccinations, Kerrigan was quick to praise the fact that they worked for the league last year and were able to get through the season and play every game – and feel safe in every game. He noted that everyone has a choice to make, so the important thing is to just follow the protocols as set, but he would not respond if he was vaccinated. (Note: According to NFL protocols, only unvaccinated players are required to wear masks during their time off the field, including during media sessions.)

K Jake Elliott

Asked about his drop in production last season, Elliott noted that confidence is really important as a kicker and it’s something he’s struggled with throughout the season. He went on to say that he had had a really good offseason and was able to look back and try to eliminate some of the mental issues – he called them swing thoughts, like a golfer – that he was treating.

P Arryn Siposs

Siposs has talked about moving to Philly in May to work as much as he can with Jake Elliott and Rick Lovato, and while he feels good he doesn’t have another bettor to compete with at camp, he admits he does. must challenge himself every day to make sure he keeps up.

The Australian punter also noted that he spoke with Cameron Johnston before joining the team, and was encouraged that the former Eagle had a lot of positive things to say about the group. He admitted, however, that there’s going to be a bit of a learning curve because the reality is he hasn’t played an NFL game yet.

Although he played varsity ball in the SEC, he spent last season on the Lions practice team, and he trained a lot outside in the elements and in cold weather. So, he’s confident he’ll be successful for Philly even later in the season.

CB Darius Kill

Slay is thrilled that Steve Nelson chose to sign with Philly, and he’s someone Slay has known from college. Nelson has quickly figured things out so far in training camp, with Slay pointing out the benefit of having a whole new staff and a whole new coaching system, so it’s a bit of a learning curve for everyone.

During the early days of camp, Slay was tasked with covering for rookie DeVonta Smith, and he was quick to say the receiver understands a lot about being a young man. Slay encouraged Smith to ask questions and let him help any way he could, including with little technical things and little details to help him win one-on-one situations.

Slay was quick to admit that he looked at the schedule as soon as it was posted to see which receivers he would face over the season, especially since so many of them have the same trends year after year. He was asked if he was excited to play in Detroit but Slay joked that he would only have been amputated for it, Matt Patricia was still the coach.
