The Philadelphia Eagles will play in the penultimate game of their 2019 NFL pre-season schedule tonight against the Baltimore Ravens at the Lincoln Financial Field.
It will be very exciting to watch.
Except not really.
It may be fun to watch if the Eagles treated the third pre-season game as a dress rehearsal. But that does not seem to be the case. Offensive starters Philadelphia have not played so far in pre-season. Doug Pederson does not seem in a hurry to name these guys there, especially after his rookies had a lot of reps in the Eagles' joint practice against the Ravens this week.
Maybe it's not quite impossible for us to see Eagles offensive players play? Jason Peters offered a curious quote (via the Inquirer):
But the head of the bill was his answer when asked if the joint practices replaced the preparatory games for him. Peters gave the starters a better job than the ones they usually get in the pre-season games. Then he said, "We do not know, but I think I'll play a half [Thursday]. I'm not sure, but I'm getting ready as if I'm going to play the whole game. "
I do not see why Peters, 37, would need to play pre-season, let alone half a day. I really do not know what to do with this quote, except that I still do not expect to see beginners at all. It would be quite surprising that Carson Wentz really plays.
So we should expect another pre-season game dominated by the Eagles substitutes, who get the most playing time. This could be a good test for them too, with the Raven starters potentially in action. Oddsmakers certainly expect the Baltimore starters to have a good run considering that the Ravens are the favorites of the five-point road.
Anyway, we hope the Eagles will have a performance closer to last week's performance against the Jaguars than their bad pre-season debut against the Titans. It would be nice to see some of the young players continue to stand out. Oh, and more injuries, please.
Another 17 days before the Eagles' first match real The match takes place against Washington on Sunday, September 8th.
