The Philadelphia Eagles defense came out to play Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks, keeping the Week 12 NFC showdown close at hand for much of the night. Russell Wilson, on the other hand, did enough to capitalize on Philly’s putrid performance with the ball in his hands, helping to lead Seattle to a 23-17 victory.
Monday’s result marks seven straight wins for the Seahawks over the Eagles, who have yet to beat Seattle since Pete Carroll became head coach. He keeps the Hawks atop NFC West at 8-3 and brings down Philly to 3-7-1 in NFC East.

Why the Seahawks won
On a night when their offense was held in check for most of the match, DK Metcalf found another way to dominate, making the most of Darius Slay on nearly every big play opportunity and helping set up each of the Seattle score records. The wide wide finished with 10 catches for 177 yards, but it could have easily gone further. Russell Wilson, meanwhile, did just enough to handle the game from the pocket, picking his places efficiently. Maybe the even bigger reason Seattle won? This defense, ranked among the worst in the NFL, capitalized on the ineptitude of the Eagles and particularly feasted on up front, steadily attacking Carson Wentz to keep Philly off balance for most of the night.
Why the Eagles lost
Doug Pederson’s “offense”, with Carson Wentz as the centerpiece, barely took off. The Philly “D” played so inspired for so much of Monday night’s shock that, frankly, he deserved much more on the other side of the ball. Wentz was off target as usual, failing to connect on open looks on the pitch and communicating poorly on a red zone pick. He also received little help from the O line, receiving the body and the coaching staff which is normal for the course in 2020. All around just a total train wreck except for a few pushes. without a caucus, on the offensive, where Travis Fulgham was again inexplicably absent and Miles Sanders received just eight touches. The Eagles didn’t just lose a game on Monday because of their offense; they stepped up discussions on future generalized changes at the top of the organization.
Turning
Fourth and 2 for the Eagles at their own 38. Thirteen minutes left in the fourth quarter. Philly was just eight points behind at the time, and Doug Pederson kept the offense on the field to get there, only to watch Carson Wentz’s short pass to Richard Rodgers was hit immediately by KJ Wright. The roll on the downs not only erased the Eagles’ opportunity to potentially tie the game, but it allowed Seattle to burn two more precious minutes on a series of scores that followed.

The Seahawks (8-3) will return home in Week 13, when they host the New York Giants (4-7), who may or may not recover quarterback Daniel Jones from injury. The Eagles (3-7-1), meanwhile, will arguably face an even bigger task when they visit the Green Bay Packers (8-3), who have just emerged from a Bears rout. .
