The EPA opened an investigation, while the Justice Ministry filed a lawsuit against the manufacturer, forcing it to pay much less than the fine imposed on Volkswagen. Although the manufacturer never admitted that there was fault in the case, he cleaned the engine behavior.

This new plant has undergone significant changes. These include a new water-cooled turbocharger with a variable geometry turbine, redesigned cylinder head intake ports, an updated exhaust gas recirculation system and redesigned fuel injectors. The FCA claims that these and other modifications increase the engine compression ratio to 16.5: 1 (instead of 16: 1) and allow for "superb fuel economy and minimal noise levels, vibration and hardness.

The fuel economy ratings of the new EcoDiesel pickup have not been released yet, but Ram hopes his efforts will give another chance to boast. Buyers will be able to combine the new EcoDiesel with Ram's adjustable air suspension, which will further boost fuel economy.

As things stand, there are already two reasons: the torque mentioned above and the towing capacity of the engine of 12,560 pounds. The maximum towing capacity of the F-150 for diesel is 11,400 pounds; the Silverado 1500 is still unknown. Indeed, Ram can not yet claim the best tow in its class with certainty.

It is interesting to note that Ram plans to offer the new EcoDiesel not only in the second year of its new full-size vans, but also to the 2019 versions of the older generation 1500 Classic.
