The president of the Union of Taxis of PichinchaCarlos Brunis confirmed today to Efe that his union would proceed this Friday to an indefinite paralysis of activities in Quito, to the extent that this municipality plans to extend the allocation of quotas for this type of service in 13,000 new places.

The measure of pressure forced the authorities of the Ecuadorian capital to suspend Friday clbades in schools and colleges in the city.

The Under-Secretary of Education of the Metropolitan District of Quito said that, to protect students, he suspends clbades throughout the city and in all types of educational institutions three days: morning, afternoon and evening.

"The truth is that we did not want to reach these instances, but we must take this step because we have asked the authorities to rule and they have not done so yet," Brunis said.

He said that this mobilization is due to a municipal ordinance to grant 13,000 additional taxis, while there are already 16,000 active and that the city does not need 29,000 vehicles for this type of transport.

In addition, he said that several cases of corruption within the system of the order from several advisors have been reported, that he has not identified, and said "do not know what their interests are. "

"The stop of the taxis will not end until the competent authorities have decided," he added, recalling that last week, the carriers seized the National Assembly (Parliament) and the Quito municipality with their complaints and have not got any answers.

Several taxi drivers have ensured that the stop also obeyed the disagreement that generated in this sector the transport service via Uber and Cabify mobile applications, which they consider illegal because they do not pay for it. taxes or subscription.

For his part, the mayor of Quito, Mauricio Rodas, rejected "brutally" the attitude of the taxi drivers and declared that he would firmly defend the interests of citizens, as well as the maintenance of the public order.

In a message on his Twitter account, Rodas recalled that public order disorder and road blocking are punishable by the Criminal Code.

"It is argued that the reason for this strike is a possible reform of a prescription." It is incredible to think that chaoting the city is based on a mere expectation of a subject that has not even begun to be discussed, "said Rodas.

The taxi guild of Quito has already caused this morning a partial and temporary paralysis, which has generated many traffic jams of vehicles in different districts of the capital. EFE
