The board of directors of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) gave Tuesday its support to its president, Carlos Villacís, to hire the Colombian coach Hernán Darío Gómez who led the Andean country to play his first absolute World Cup, played in 2002 in South Korea and Japan.
Alex De la Torre, vice president of the FEF, said today that Gomez, who brought Panama to the World Cup in Russia, approved of the whole of the Council to be the Ecuadorian coach with a view to the eliminations of the Qatar World Cup 2022.
"The final decision is made by President Carlos Villacís," said De la Torre, for whom l & # 39; Gómez's election is supported by "the majority of Ecuadorians."
After the 2002 World Cup, Ecuador played two more with Colombian coaches. Luis Fernando Suárez led the staff in Germany in 2006, and Reinaldo Rueda played in Brazil four years ago. EFE
