The activity of the Ecuadorian volcano Reventador, located about 90 kilometers from Quito, remained high in the last hours with emissions of 200 meters high, informed the National Institute of Geophysics today.
According to an informative part, during the night most of the time its crater was clear and no superficial activity was observed, but early morning produced "emissions of less than 200 meters high" and northwest direction.
"The Geophysical Institute of the National Polytechnic School is attentive to the activity in the volcano, and will inform any changes that may occur". the bulletin.
The volcano has recorded since May an intense activity characterized by occasional eruptions and emissions of gas and ashes, which up to now have not caused any major damage.
The Reventador is a "compound volcanic stratum", located in a spur of the eastern branch of the Andean mountain range that is lost with the beginning of the Amazon basin. From 3560 meters high, began its current eruptive process in 2002 consisting of the generation of explosions, emissions of gas and ash, lava flows and lahars.
On the other hand, the Institute of Geophysics reported an earthquake of magnitude 4, 2 on the open scale Richter and the epicenter of 2 kilometers deep, recorded at 22, 33 kilometers from Puerto Villamil, in the Galapagos archipelago.
