The Permanent Council of the OAS approved a resolution on Nicaragua in which it is requested the government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega to accept the proposal of the Catholic Church to advance until March 2019 the elections scheduled for 2021 With 21 votes for, 3 votes against, 7 abstentions and 3 absentees, the initiative, promoted by seven countries (Argentina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Peru and USA) and supported by Mexico, has been approved and "urges" the Nicaraguan executive to "support an agreed electoral timetable as part of the national dialogue process," according to the text.

Among the countries that voted in favor of the resolution are Argentina, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, EE. UU, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia and Uruguay.

Similarly, at the extraordinary session, the resolution presented by the Nicaraguan Chancellor to the OAS was voted, Denis Moncada, which was rejected after receiving 3 votes in favor, 20 against, 8 abstentions and three absences.
