Wolf Van Halen wrote a moving tribute to his late father, Eddie, to commemorate what would have been the rocker’s 66th birthday on Tuesday.
“Happy 66th Birthday, Pop,” prefaced Wolf the sincere tweet. “I wish I could give you the biggest hug and celebrate it with you.” I love you and I miss you so much that it hurts. I don’t even know how to put it into words.
“I did my best to hold on, but g ——- t it’s really hard to be here without you,” continued Wolf, 29.
Wolf then followed up with a second tweet who said, “Not a second has passed where you haven’t been in my mind, and today will be no different.”

“I love you and I miss you beyond words, Pop ❤”, concludes Wolf.
Both tweets were accompanied by candid personal videos from 1994. The first video shows Eddie playfully capturing Wolf in his oversized t-shirt, while the second video features “Wolfie and Daddy” on Christmas Eve.

Eddie Van Halen, best known for his innovative strikes, virtuoso guitar technique and impeccable shredding in Van Halen, died aged 65 in October.
Van Halen told Billboard magazine in 2015 that he had a third of his tongue removed due to cancer that had also spread to his esophagus.

“I used metal picks – they’re brass and copper – that I always held in my mouth, exactly where I got the cancer of the tongue,” he told the ‘time. “Plus, I basically live in a recording studio full of electromagnetic energy. So that’s a theory. I mean, I was smoking and taking a lot of drugs and a lot of everything. But at the same time, my lungs are totally clear.. It’s just my own theory, but the doctors say it’s possible. “
