OAKLAND – Whether they admit it or not, it must be infuriating for the Red Sox.

In two starts, the pitcher – who had been more optimistic than any other pitcher in the spring – allowed 12 runs on 16 hits in eight innings.

For his career, Rodriguez started 89 games, 31-26 with an average of 4.26.

The Red Sox need to understand a lot of things these days, but deciphering exactly what they have in this launcher could be almost at the top of the list.
