Edward Scissorhands writer says Johnny Depp made him margaritas before

Caroline Thompson, an “Edward Scissorhands” screenwriter, told Insider that Johnny Depp used to greet her “at the door every morning with a margarita.”

Thompson told Insider about “Edward Scissorhands,” which Depp starred in and which celebrates his 30th birthday this year, as well as “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” which celebrates its 27th birthday.

Thompson told Insider that years after working together on “Edward Scissorhands,” she and Depp were sounding on different movies at the same sound studio in Hollywood.

“He greeted me at the door every morning with a margarita. What could be better than that? Thompson said.

The screenwriter, who also wrote “Corpse Bride” and directed “Black Beauty,” said she “would love to date Depp.”

“But I don’t drink anymore, so I don’t know if it’s doable,” Thompson said. “Alcohol is really fun until it’s gone. We’ve all had fun once, and we’ve all run under the fun once. It’s always fun until someone loses. an eye or something. “

Thompson told Insider she hopes Depp’s career could recover from the libel lawsuit Depp recently lost and that the allegations against the actor made her “really sad.” Thompson said she suspected Depp “of really getting lost at times in her life.”

In 2018, an editor at UK newspaper The Sun wrote that Depp was a “wife beater” in connection with Depp’s marriage to Amber Heard, who allegedly physically assaulted her. Depp has denied all of the allegations made against him and sued the Sun for his use of the phrase. But earlier this month, a judge ruled there was enough evidence for The Sun to use it.

After the trial, Depp said he was asked to step down from his role in the “Harry Potter” spinoff film “Fantastic Beasts 3” (although he would still receive his eight-figure salary). Mads Mikkelsen will replace Depp.

Some people have said that after the trial Depp’s Hollywood career may indeed be over.

But Thompson said she preferred to think of Depp as she remembered him.

“I don’t want to think badly of Johnny. I just want to think about Johnny well, and I know he’s a nice man,” Thompson told Insider.

She recounted the last time she saw him, in 2011.

“I was fortunate to receive an award at the Austin Film Festival,” alongside John Lasseter and another television writer, Thompson said. “Johnny came over and gave me my prize, which was really remarkable of him, very kind of him. He was always very warm and welcoming.”
