The "Western Shelf" project in Assiut governorate, one of the major projects that President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi quickly implemented in Upper Egypt, and the project alters the level of its services to connect the provinces.
The project includes the implementation of the 22-kilometer high road, at a cost of 300 million pounds, in addition to the construction of three new communities on both sides of an area of 6006 acres.
In an important stage of the West Shelf Project, the engineer Mohamed Fawzi El-Nashar, head of the Central Authority for Reconstruction of Central and Northern Upper Egypt, said the works are in progress in the second phase. Up to the middle of the plateau, on a total of 22 km and 600 m lies the length of the road.

First: The "western shelf axis" road consists of 3 main zones, namely:
From "Airport Road", a very rugged terrain, with a desert nature where the implementation began.
2. The second area
The complete area, an area 6 km long, extends with the valley until the beginning of Seel Bank in the village of Drunkh.
3. The third zone
a length of 4 km from "start of the descent of the plateau", so the project along the sides of the road on 22 km, and the road is 4 lanes with a traffic width and complete equipment for secure the road.
Second: "The three residential communities, where President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi has agreed to allocate the area of 6,000 acres of land belonging to the highest Western Shelf to establish a new urban community of the province, In the decision of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces No. 128 for the year 2012 of an area of only 3743 acres, the first phase of the construction of the first urban complex located south of the road of the Axis cost more than 90 million pounds.
Division of Housing Communities
The three communities will be divided into youth housing zones, activity zones and social housing projects for low-income and investment areas.It will contribute to the development of a genuine "urban, agricultural, economic and tourism" on the land of the province, and aims to solve the problems of housing by creating 3 communities on both sides, 10 times the current city of Assiut, Residential Units and a shareholder (19659002)
.This will also lead to the preservation of agricultural land and reduction of slums and supply from a distance of about 15 km to reach the city of Assiut at the international airport of Assiut, connecting the network of regional roads, the western road "Cairo, Sohag , Cairo-Kharga, Agricultural Road, Oriental Desert Road, Asiut-Red Sea Road and Army Road, which contribute to increase the commercial exchanges between governorates and to attract new investments in the governorate .
