The World Cup came to the Luzhinki stadium in the Russian capital of Moscow before the World Cup final in France and Croatia.

Croatia won the World Cup for the first time in its history, the best achievements being to occupy the third place and to obtain the bronze medal in France in 1998. Croatia lost to France in the semi-finals of the 1998 1 – 2 World Cup.
