Police say a drive-by shooting in Chicago injured eight people riding a party bus, one of several shootings in the city that left at least three people dead on the same day

CHICAGO – A drive-by shooting in Chicago injured eight people who were on a party bus, one of several shootings in the city that left at least three people dead on the same day, police said.

Chicago Police Superintendent. David Brown said on Thursday that few people injured in each shooting were cooperating with police and urged members of the community to come forward if they knew anything.

Investigators believe the shooters in each incident were targeting specific victims, although some of those injured were passers-by, including a teenager who was getting into a car.

“Street justice never stops,” Brown said. “The appetite for revenge is never satisfied. It only hurts. It only ruins your community. And we need the community to move forward now. We are fighting for the hearts and souls of some of our communities and now is the time to speak up. “

The mass shooting took place Wednesday night in Lincoln Park on the city’s north side when one or more people in an SUV shot at the group, police said. He comes amid efforts to curb the rise in gun violence in the city and the United States, including new strike forces against arms trafficking in Chicago and four other cities.

Following the shooting on the party bus, a man was hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his chest, police said, while the other injured men and women were in good condition. fair or serious.

Deputy Detective Chief Brendan Deenihan said detectives believed people on the bus were being targeted, but he did not provide any details.

Deenihan said the bus entered a gas station to allow people to use the restroom. Three cars stopped and people inside started shooting at the passengers of the bus who were heading towards the building, he said.

No arrests were made.

Two of the injured were employees of the bus company, including a security guard. Another person was sitting in a car at the gas station, Deenihan said.

Earlier that night, a drive-by shootout on the city’s Near West Side left two dead. The men were standing outside West Town when someone in a passing SUV shot them. No one was immediately taken into custody.

Ten other people were shot dead, one fatal, in two shootings within blocks and minutes of each other Wednesday night in North Lawndale on the West Side of Chicago, police said.

A 15-year-old boy has died after being shot in the head in a shooting, which also injured four other teenagers, including a 16-year-old who was in serious condition, police said.

The second shooting around the same time injured five people, including a 19-year-old man who was in critical condition after being shot in the chest.

A 14 year old boy was in good condition. Deenihan said he was hit by a stray bullet while getting into a car with his father.

Chicago Deputy Police Chief Ernest Cato visited the site of the second shooting and asked for the public’s help in investigating the attacks.

On Monday, the Chicago Police Department announced a new team of officers, prosecutors and federal agents who will target gun trafficking as part of anti-violence efforts. It follows another bloody weekend that ended with more than 60 people shot dead, 10 of them fatally.
