Ancient ring and its seamless open world

Yasuhiro Kitao began by explaining Ancient ring is a typical FromSoftware game with elements of dark fantasy, but with several differences from Souls Games. One of the novelties is that the game is an open world and that it is perfectly connected to several dungeons.

You have small and medium sized dungeons spread across the open world like underground tunnels. And there is what he called the “legacy dungeons” which are huge castles and typical environments that also appear in Demonic souls and Dark souls. One of the ways to enjoy the game is to explore the map and seamlessly discover and enter areas like this.

You travel through the open world field using your horse, called Reima (Ghost Horse), which you can summon anywhere with the whistle except inside dungeons. The open world is huge and is designed to be another source of danger, different from the sense of danger you will experience in dungeons, which adds to the fun. Kitao also touched on how the horse affects battles. As we see in the gameplay trailer, for example, when fighting dragons or giant enemies, you prefer to be on horseback, but in narrower areas it is better to be on foot.

Next, Kitao explained that in Ancient ring There are no signs like ‘go to this dungeon next’, you are free to explore and go wherever you want. While sometimes you can be completely confused about what to do next, so there are some features that will help you out in those times, such as maps.

Yasuhiro Kitao said he would “lie” if he said Elden Ring was easy, but it’s not like the game is hard just to be hard. It is designed so that you can feel a sense of accomplishment when you successfully do something or discover something, and high difficulty is one of those ways to achieve that.

However, there are several systems that make the game easier to help players, such as being able to summon allies. There is also a stealth system as in Chopped which allows you to stab and shoot enemies in the back to avoid harsher frontal assaults. And if the dungeon you tried to go into is too difficult, you can find dungeons that are easier to level up first, which will also help players a lot.
