The US Energy and Commerce newspaper on Wednesday announced the opening of an investigation into four major electronic cigarette manufacturers, seeking information on their research into the impact on public health, drug practices and marketing and promotion of their use by adolescents.

WASHINGTON: The US-based Energy and Commerce announced on Wednesday that it was investigating the top four manufacturers of electronic cigarettes, seeking information about their research on public health impacts, marketing practices and promoting their use. by the teenagers.
The committee sent letters to Juul Labs Inc., 35% owned by the manufacturer of Marlboro Altria Group Inc., Fontem Ventures, Japan Tobacco Inc and Reynolds American Inc., a unit of British American Tobacco Plc.
The letter to Juul asked if the company had conducted or funded studies on the health consequences of the use of its products and on the effectiveness of Juul to help users quit smoking. He asked if Juul had sent information to the Food and Drug Administration.
Companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The survey comes in the wake of the increasingly attentive e-cigarette sector by lawmakers. In July, a special group of the House published internal emails to Juul, described by the committee staff as attempts "to enter schools and transmit messages directly to adolescents".
James Monsees, Juul's co-founder and product manager, told the panel that the company's target audience was adult cigarette smokers.
Democratic Representative Frank Pallone, Democratic Chair of the Committee, cited recent vaping-related lung diseases reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He asked for answers and documents by 20 September.
