George Harris Prep (Canada) star Enoch Boakye has decided to step down from Michigan state and reopen recruiting, the 6-foot-11 center told Sports Illustrated.
“It’s a tough decision because I really love the state of Michigan,” Boakye said. “But it’s just one of those situations where I have to do what’s best for me and my future.”
The problem, according to Boakye, a junior, stems from the traffic jam of the greats at Lansing, who will likely be longer due to the Spartans’ disappointing season.
The Spartans are 10-8 overall and 4-8 in the Big Ten.
“Just by doing a lot of research with my team and watching a lot of games, it looks like a lot of guys will stick around,” Boakye said. “I want to go to a place where I have the opportunity to make an impact right away. This is my number one goal. “

Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Arizona State, Arizona, USC, Duke, Kentucky, Washington State and Gonzaga have already reached out since the release, according to Boakye.
“I don’t really have a timeline to decide now,” he said. “At the same time, I don’t want to waste anybody’s time. I think things will go quickly. I think I will finally make it to the top three and then announce it.
Last season, Boakye averaged 13 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks per game. Sports have been suspended across most of Canada this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Boakye has said he may come to the United States to play AAU games starting next season.
“It was hard to do because just on my way there I really liked everything,” Boakye said of the state of Michigan. “What I’m learning now is that I also have to make business decisions. It must be the right fit for me in all respects, so I open it up to make the best decision.
