Well, it’s certainly been a month for Armie Hammer. Earlier in January, the actor made sensational headlines after alleged screenshots of his Instagram DMs began circulating online in which he appeared to depict violent sexual fantasies involving rape and cannibalism. Next, two of Hammer’s exes came forward individually to talk about their respective relationships with him, characterizing Hammer as an emotionally and psychologically abusive and manipulative partner.
In all this, the actor vehemently defended his character. He decried SM as “bullshit”, and following an ex’s second consensual allegation, his rep told “Page Six” that “any interaction with this person or any of his partners was totally consensual in that they have been fully discussed, agreed upon and mutually participatory. “
Among the growing claims against Hammer has been one person who probably knows him better than anyone: his ex-wife, 38-year-old actress and entrepreneur Elizabeth Chambers. His silence is understandable. After a 13-year relationship that included a 10-year marriage, the couple broke up last year; Chambers’ divorce petition attributed the split to “irreconcilable differences.” While Hammer and Chambers kept their intentions largely private, months later reports emerged that Chambers had been the one to call off the relationship, after finding “passionate texts” on Hammer’s phone.
Now, finally, Chambers has spoken. Just Jared pop culture release yesterday posted a photo on Instagram announcing that Timothée Chalamet, Hammer Call me by your name co-star, was in talks to reunite with director Luca Guadagnino for a new film. Said film, titled Bones and all, happens to be an adaptation of a book of the same name, which is a coming-of-age story centered on… a cannibalistic adolescent.
Chambers had only two words – or, arguably, none – to say on this subject. “No. Words,” she commented under the photo of Hammer, Chalamet and Guadagnino. While Just Jared pointed out that Hammer is not involved in the film, the timing of all of this is certainly odd, considering Hammer’s alleged DMs included statements like “I need to drink your blood” and “I am 100% cannibal.” While Chambers’ comment doesn’t elucidate exactly how she handles complaints against her ex-husband, at the very least, we can assume that she disapproves of this new creative endeavor, whether the timing is a coincidence or not.
Meanwhile, Hammer apparently abandoned another project. Last night, Variety reported that Hammer was leaving Paramount + The Godfather mini-series, The offer, in which he was nominated to play the lead role. I wonder how this decision was made.
