Olsen details how she scored roles in the MCU and “Godzilla.”

We kept things WandaVision– specific for the most part with the ‘blank slate’ vs. ‘blank slate’ conversation and the one relating to Wanda’s accent, but now is the time to focus on Olsen’s journey in the industry, particularly on the way she booked her first roles in the franchise.
Martha Marcy May Marlene put Olsen on the map like never before and after that she continued to build up strong freelance credits like Liberal arts and Kill your darling. So how exactly do you go about making a name for yourself in the independent sphere with the reservation of colossal blockbusters like Godzilla and Avengers: Age of Ultron? Olsen had to take the initiative to express his interest in these types of films to get the ball rolling.
“It was actually a funny decision I made in the world. I spoke to my agent, my manager who are like my other mothers. I love them so much. And I told them, ‘I want to be considered for the projects that I grew up in …’ – like, as a kid, watching Star wars and i was obsessed with Star wars. You couldn’t tear me away from Star wars like a child. And so I was trying to figure out, how to start putting that out there because I feel like all I get is these really messed up women in independent movies. [Laughs] [Now] she’s just a deranged woman in a big franchise! They said to take meetings with the people who run these companies and that’s what I literally did. I met Kevin [Feige] and a few other people who worked there at the time. And then I met the people who were running Legendary at the time. And there were a few more in different places.
So how exactly do these “general meetings” work? Olsen explained how the process went Godzilla:
“The funny thing is, at the legendary reunion, they said, ‘You know, directors threw movies. We don’t show movies. We are creating an incubator for administrators to do what they want ”. And I said to myself: “Totally fair”. So I was lucky that Gareth threw me at Godzilla. When he showed me this teaser of what he was going to do, which they showed at Comic-Con, it was such a beautiful movie and you throw Bryan Cranston and Juliette Binoche and you’re like, ‘Sign up me! ” [Laughs] This is how it happened. Luckily Gareth is also from indie cinema and I think that’s how it worked for me.
As for Age of Ultron, it turned out to be an interesting experience as Olsen was making this decision with her Godzilla co-star, Aaron Taylor-Johnson:
“Joss [Whedon] I had Aaron and I on my mind for Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and so Aaron and I both had separate meetings with Joss while we were doing covers for Godzilla and Aaron and I was like, ‘Shall we go. both do that? It’s so funny! Should we stop being husband and wife [to] to be brother and sister? [Laughs]”
The big takeaway here? Olsen reserved both roles shortly after taking these general meetings.
“I think what’s going on is you just put yourself at the front of people when you take these meetings and whatever discussions take place. And that’s what happened with Kathryn Hahn with Kevin Feige for WandaVision. She went on a general around the same time they were prepping WandaVision and she was like the first person who came in when they wanted to cast Agnes. There’s something about taking on those generals who feel so uncomfortable usually because you always feel like you’re selling yourself, which you sort of do, but you’re all just trying to have a conversation about what they do too, or what they want to put in the world. ”
So not only are these “generals” key to making sure the people working on these films know you’re interested, but it’s also an opportunity to learn more about other projects that might be in the works. your disposition. And when it comes to the MCU specifically, Olsen also had the benefit of having a family member who is a huge fan of the franchise and who knew a thing or two about his potential:
“It wasn’t like I was a cartoon person. It was just that I liked Iron Man. [Laughs] I absolutely loved Iron Man! And I remember hearing my brother say, “Oh, do you meet on the Guardians? He already knew about all this stuff that was going on that I didn’t know, and he was really telling me how exciting Marvel’s next chapter was going to be and so the way he was talking about it made me horny. And, you know, he’s not in the industry; he’s just a fan!
