Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch accent has been a topic of discussion for Marvel fans since the actress made her MCU debut in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” in 2015. Olsen sported a thick fictional country accent. of Sokovia in “Age of Ultron”, but the emphasis had apparently disappeared by the time of “Avengers: Infinity War”. Now Olsen and Scarlet Witch are at the center of the Disney + TV series “WandaVision,” where the character appears in American sitcom genres with a perfect American accent. Olsen explained Scarlet Witch’s ever-changing focus in a recent interview with Collider.

“The Sokovia accent was created by me and Aaron [Taylor-Johnson] and our dialect trainer because it’s a fake country and we could find different sources of Slavic sounds, ”said Olsen. “We wanted to make sure it didn’t sound Russian because Black Widow speaks Russian, so we just needed to sound more like Slovak. So we made these sound changes that worked for Aaron’s British accent going mostly to Slovakia and my American accent so we sounded linked. And then all of a sudden all these different characters must have been talking about it in different movies.

Olsen continued: “The Sokovian accent took a long time. He didn’t go anywhere. There were reasons for everything. It was cleared up when she started living in the United States, and in “WandaVision” she is playing the role of being on an American sitcom and so it didn’t go away. He is absolutely still there.

Joe and Anthony Russo, who directed Olsen in two films “Avengers” and “Captain America: Civil War”, previously said Scarlet Witch’s fading accent was an intentional creative choice. As the filmmaking duo put it in 2018, “First, you’ll notice at the start of ‘Civil War’ that Black Widow trains her to be a spy, and second, she’s been on the run, and one of the most distinguished. its characteristics are its accent.

Perhaps as “WandaVision” continues and the American sitcom’s charm breaks, MCU fans can hear Scarlet Witch revert to her traditional Sokovian accent. The nine-episode Disney + series airs new episodes every Friday.
