  • “Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday evening.

  • Pompeo told the host she got “so much trouble” for tweeting that a doll in her likeness was made.

  • “It’s a doll, it’s not me. I’m beautiful,” Pompeo laughed.

“Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo told Jimmy Kimmel on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” On Thursday night, she had a conversation for revealing some tricks of the trade to her fans on Twitter.

During season 17 of ABC’s hit medical drama, Pompeo’s character Meredith Gray was in a COVID-19-induced coma for most episodes. She assured Kimmel that she doesn’t have to go to the set of many scenes featuring Meredith lying in her hospital bed in Seattle.

A doll in her likeness was made to stand out of her place, and Pompeo told the host that she had actually “gotten into big trouble” for tweeting about this doll. She said she was asked to remove the tweet, although she did not disclose who made the request.

“They said, ‘You are ruining the public illusion,” Pompeo told Kimmel. “And I said,” The public can’t think it’s me. “”

The actress explained that the accessory was a “latex doll” that it was “brutal” to have made because they “cover your head with latex and papier mache”. She said the lights and heat on set caused the doll to lose its shape over time, so in the last few episodes of the season, “the doll just kept looking worse and worse.”

Pompeo joked that it was clear that “Meredith doesn’t look so good” but she wanted people to know it wasn’t really her. “It’s a doll, it’s not me. I’m gorgeous,” she joked to Kimmel.

Kimmel joked that the doll would make a very spooky Halloween prop, but Pompeo said she couldn’t keep it, adding, “My kids could be tagged for life.”

“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
