Ellen Pompeo posted a tweet featuring former co-star Katherine Heigl that sparked speculation from fans about Izzie Stevens returning to Grey’s Anatomy.
The 51-year-old actress who plays Dr Meredith Gray on the ABC show posted a tweet Thursday with a look back at Meredith and Izzie, played by Katherine from 2005 to 2010.

A promo for the upcoming Grey’s Anatomy episode airing on December 3 teased that a character from Meredith’s past was returning and fans started to wonder if it could be Izzie.

Another fan hoped that Ellen wasn’t playing with her emotions and tweeted, ‘You can’t post a sea and izzy gif without making me hope.
@KatieHeigl will be back! I haven’t finished yet ”.
The Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 premiere earlier this month took place amid the COVID-19 pandemic and Meredith, after passing out, had a vision of herself on a beach with her late husband Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, died in a car crash during Season 11 in 2015.
