The couple announced the decision in a statement to CNN on Tuesday.
“After much thought and thought, we made the difficult decision to divorce after our separation last summer. We respect each other and remain close friends.”
Their separation comes three years after announcing they were getting married in 2018.
Portner, a teacher at the Broadway Dance Center, and the actor started dating in 2017.
The news comes two months after Page was released as transgender. At the time, Portner posted a supportive message on Instagram: “I’m so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience and privacy, but that you join me in the fervor supporting trans life everyday. Elliot’s existence is a gift in itself. Shine on sweet E. I love you so much. “
