Elliot Page will continue to play his character on Netflix’s “Umbrella Academy” after coming out as transgender on Tuesday.

The actor stars as Vanya Hargreeves in the Dark Horse Comics-based superhero series of the same name. Vanya is a cisgender woman with unstable powers that allow her to affect her surroundings by force using sound, which she usually channels through her violin.

Although the character is female and Page reveals that he identifies as male, there are no plans for the show to change Vanya or for Page to cease playing the role in the upcoming third season, according to Variety.

The outlet quotes an insider who claims that in addition to keeping Page for “Umbrella Academy,” Netflix is ​​currently changing its name in all of the metadata in which it appears on the streaming service.

Page, 33, took to Twitter on Tuesday to introduce himself publicly as a transgender man in a lengthy statement.

“Hi friends, I want to share with you that I’m trans, my pronouns are he / they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to write this. To be here. To have come to this place in my life. life,” the declaration begins.

Page reflected on his gratitude for the support he received as he embarked on this new chapter.

“I feel immense gratitude for the amazing people who have supported me throughout this trip. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it is finally to love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self, ”continues Page.

Page’s announcement comes six years after he publicly declared himself gay at a conference in Las Vegas for educators and counselors who work with gay youth. In 2018, the star married her partner Emma Portner. The two reportedly met on Instagram.
