Elon Musk hints at Tesla vehicles on Spotify

Tesla navigates into a relatively complex situation of streaming music in the car, and Elon Musk adds the reason by suggesting that Tesla cars in North America could get Spotify.

In Europe, Tesla owners are benefiting from a Spotify application directly integrated into the Tesla system for years.

However, in North America, Tesla has an agreement with Slacker to provide streaming music services to the fleet.

Slacker has been criticized by some Tesla owners. So we do not know why Tesla did not integrate Spotify with its entire fleet, but it seems like it's a contractual issue.

The service is relatively small and the integration of the Tesla fleet is actually a significant part of the revenues of Slacker Radio's parent company.

At one point, versions of the Tesla Spotify application have been repeatedly featured in the North American Vehicle Code, but this feature has never been available to the US and Canadian fleets.

Elon Musk, CEO, now suggests that he could finally arrive in the United States in one word in response to the integration of streaming music application:

The CEO did not specify or propose a timetable for the eventual release of Spotify in the North American fleet.

In 2017, Tesla even started working on its own music streaming service, but the project seems to have been put on the back burner.

Last month, Musk also mentioned that Tesla was working on a "fun little musical tool to come" and on a "fit" of music inside Tesla vehicles.

Electrek's Take

Personally, I do not really think that Slacker is so bad and when I really want to use Spotify, I simply use my phone via Bluetooth.

However, I can see how having Spotify directly integrated with Tesla software could be more convenient.

Due to several false hopes in the past on this front, I would not go over here, but Elon's comment is encouraging.

We will closely monitor any changes to Tesla's music application in software updates in the coming weeks.
